SPEAKER - Beth Kliewer
Beth loves her Savior; spending quality time together is priceless. She can’t get enough following Jesus on various adventures from her Bakersfield California home to Ireland, Texas, Hungary and back again. Through 30 years of marriage, 4 kids, multiple callings, she has focused on encouraging and loving the least of these. Bringing hope for the hopeless, loving the forgotten, and touching the sick in Jesus Name is who she is.

Debi loves to sing and make a "joyful noise" unto the Lord! She has been singing since she was 3 years old, and has graduated from her teenage "hair band" days of the '80s to now leading praise and worship! Debi has been involved in short term mission ministry work around the world for several years and has a deep desire to "serve the servant" abroad. She loves to be involved in women's ministry conferences; teaching, speaking, encouraging, listening, praying for, and of course, leading women into God's courts with praise, where we can find contentment and God's great joy!
Debi and her husband live in Canon City, Colorado and own an excavation and wildland firefighting company. They are co-founders of Pearls of Education Foundation, a charity that provides education and restoration to Liberian students. Debi is the co-author of the children's book "A Girl Like Me."
RETREAT MANAGER - Britta Shaub
Britta has a heart for women to feel seen, known, and loved by Christ and His Church. She is thrilled to join Azmera Haven Retreats to encourage women who spend their lives encouraging others in the gospel! Britta served as a missionary to university students in Athens, Greece and loved the difficult challenge of dying to self and learning to communicate God’s love cross-culturally. Britta is a creative small business owner, yoga teacher and foster mom, living in Fort Worth with her husband, Kenny.

Karla Childs
Karla is a retired social studies and English teacher. After being overseas with the DoD Education Activity for thirty years, she and her husband moved to Manchester, TN, where she taught Adult Education for ten years. She has led women's Bible studies for many years, as well as participated in church choirs. In her free time, Karla enjoys reading, water aerobics, and puzzles. Karla and Mike are blessed with eight delightful grandchildren; their son's family lives in Nairobi and their daughter's family is in Knoxville.

Judy Christian
Judy grew up in Iowa and moved to Asia as a newlywed with her husband, Mike in 1979. Little did they know that God would continue to lead them there for over 40 years. She has raised four daughters in the Philippines and Thailand and now has 11 grandchildren. She is on staff with Cru in Chiang Mai, Thailand; and works with Thai nationals to help Thai's know Jesus. She also has a heart for helping moms in every phase of parenting to enjoy their children and be the mother they want to be.

Jane Couperus
Jane is a fourth generation Californian currently residing in Bakersfield, California. With a God-given love for travel that has taken her to 5 continents, Jane is excited to be participating in her first trip to Asia and even more excited to be volunteering at her first Azmera retreat. 2020 sees Jane on sabbatical from a 20+ year career as an investment advisor. She is taking this jubilee year to rest, to reflect, to develop her “eulogy virtues” and to follow wherever God leads. Beyond travel, Jane’s hobbies include hiking, cycling, swimming, spending time with friends and photography. “I know the Lord is always with me, I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” Psalm 16:8 NLT

Dawn Freeland
Dawn Freeland is a multimedia artist living in Dallas, TX. She grew up in East Tennessee surrounded by music, art, and storytelling. Dawn has had the opportunity to live and minister in the Far East and Eastern Europe. She believes God is the ultimate Creator and she is but an artist reflecting Him through art, hospitality and the encouragement of others.
Although her formal education was in Nursing, she studied art in Japan, Virginia and at the Maryland Institute of Art. She had the opportunity to study Art and Trauma Healing at Dallas International University and is honored to be able to use art to encourage women in ministry and in their relationship with Jesus.

Michelle Henry
Michelle just recently returned to the US after teaching Conversational American English in Russia for six years to students from three months old up to retirees. Her various hobbies - historical dance, gaming, crafting, baking, book clubs, rock climbing, traveling, and fitness - provided many opportunities to be a cultural and spiritual ambassador. Previously, she was an elementary teacher and librarian, taught ESL at her church, and participated in AWANA in various forms. Currently, she and her husband, Scot, live in a small town near Memphis. Her heart is for the global community, so she is teaching a few Chinese children online while figuring out God's next plan for her life.

Stacey Jaramillo
Stacey is from Boulder Colorado. She has been married to her husband for 22 years and is a mother of three children. She has been a Licensed Cosmetologist for 29 years and is thrilled to use her gifts and talents to serve at her first Azmera Retreat. She owned her own salon, Divine Creations for 7 years in Erie, Colorado. She also served as a Group Leader for Bible Study Fellowship for 5 years. She enjoys arts and crafts so she's enjoyed being a part of her church’s Vacation Bible School as a Decoration Coordinator for many years. Her hobbies include working on puzzles with her husband, reading, journaling, and coloring.

Tani Owens
Tani is a recent retiree after 30+ years of working in Human Resources. Tani has been the coordinator for Pioneer Girls and is on the Camp Cherith Board of Directors and helps with various roles within her church's Women's Ministry activities. Tani & her husband live outside of Erie, Colorado in a barn-shaped house on a mini-farm and have been married for 39 years. After raising their 2 children in the same church they both grew up in they now have their son & his family (including 4 of their 7 grandchildren) in the same church. Their daughter and family live in Centennial, CO. Still close enough to do a lot of babysitting. Since retiring Tani is a half time staff/unpaid volunteer at her Church in Erie as the coordinator of their Connection Team, maintaining the kitchen and supplies and often can be found feeding events with lots of people at them for the Church. Though she has done a lot of international traveling and several short-term trips this will be her first experience with Azmera.

Liz Unruh
Liz is looking forward to her first volunteer experience with the Azmera team traveling to Cambodia in February. She is excited to serve the women who have been called to be a light for the Lord overseas and she is certain the Lord has richness in store for both the attendees as well as the volunteer team. Liz is a Licensed Professional Counselor from Colorado and has worked in the field of counseling for 13 years. Liz specializes in working with teens, men, women, and couples in the areas of depression, anxiety, and trauma. Liz is married to Bryce and together they are getting used to being empty nesters as their two sons are currently in college. In her free time, she enjoys her golden retriever, reading, gardening, cycling, and making sourdough bread.

Patti Weber
Patti is a Registered Nurse and lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Corvallis Oregon. This is her second Azmera Haven retreat and she is so excited to be able to support and encourage the women who will come for this time of refreshment. Patti loves working with the youth at her church and spending time with her family and friends, as well as outdoors in God's amazing creation.

Kristin Wright-Bettner
Kristin lives in Lafayette, Colorado with her husband of 14 years, Corydon Wright-Bettner. She loves her job as a computational linguist (who knew work meetings could be fun?). She is interested in listening prayer, Lectio Divina and other approaches to praying with Scripture, and what it looks like to stay in step with the Spirit in daily life. Kristin loves running, traveling, country line dancing, nerdy board games, and mountain biking (currently at the wannabe level). She deeply values Azmera's mission and is thrilled to participate in an Azmera retreat for the first time.
