As the women processed their lives we held their stories. There is something about being away from home and away from “the norm” that frees women up to share deeply. Both attendees and volunteers shared their personal stories, encouraging and building up one another. There were stories of tragedy, trauma, abuse, abandonment, adultery, fear, and shame. Our volunteer preparation covers a broad spectrum of what to anticipate and how to prepare your heart for what is ahead in this upcoming retreat. Mary is volunteering with Azmera for the first time on this retreat. This is not her first time in Cambodia or overseas, however! Our entire team has officially assembled upon the beautiful town of Sihanoukville. We have spent the past two days in intensive training in preparation for this upcoming retreat and to prepare our hearts to welcome our beloved attendees.
